Berberine for Metabolic Health
Berberine (500mg 2-3x/day with meals) activates AMPK and reduces blood glucose comparably to metformin. Strong evidence for improving fasting glucose, HbA1c, and lipids.
Dosage & Timing
Evidence Strength
4/5 — StrongStrong evidence. Multiple RCTs and meta-analyses show significant reductions in fasting glucose (avg -15 mg/dL), HbA1c (-0.7%), triglycerides, and LDL. Yin et al. (2008) meta-analysis and Dong et al. (2012) meta-analysis are key references.
Overview
Take 500mg berberine 2-3 times daily with meals. Berberine activates AMPK (the same pathway as metformin) and has been shown to reduce fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, and LDL cholesterol. Multiple meta-analyses demonstrate glucose-lowering effects comparable to metformin in type 2 diabetes.
How To Do It
Start low
Begin with 500mg once daily with your largest meal. GI side effects (cramping, diarrhea) are common initially.
Increase gradually
After 1-2 weeks, increase to 500mg twice daily. Target dose: 500mg 2-3x/day with meals.
Take with food
Always take with meals to improve absorption and reduce GI side effects.
Monitor blood markers
Check fasting glucose and HbA1c at baseline and after 8-12 weeks. Also monitor lipid panel.
The Evidence
Each claim is linked to its source study. Confidence reflects the study design — systematic reviews and RCTs rank highest.

Creatine Monohydrate
3-5g daily of the most researched supplement in sports science. Benefits extend beyond muscle to cognition, bone health, and potentially neuroprotection.
Vitamin D3 + K2
2,000-5,000 IU vitamin D3 daily with K2 (MK-7). Most people are deficient, and optimal levels (40-60 ng/mL) support immune function, bone health, and mood.
Magnesium (Glycinate/Threonate)
200-400mg elemental magnesium daily. Half the population is deficient in this mineral involved in 300+ enzymatic processes including sleep, muscle function, and mood.
Ashwagandha (KSM-66)
300-600mg KSM-66 ashwagandha daily. Clinical trials show reduced cortisol (~30%), improved sleep quality, and modest testosterone increases.
